Using wikis is not that difficult, so don't panic at the new format.
1) Go to a site like wikispaces.com and sign up- these sights are user friendly sights that allow a teacher/educator to add an edge of protection to their wikispace.
2) On your first wikispace- setup basic pages- where and what the discussion needs to be about aka what you want the kids, parents, and teachers to discuss.
3) You will need to set up additional wikispaces that you can link to (once again don't panic, the wikispace leads you through the particular link formats needed) for things like author pages and movie sites. This is where you can get the kids involved, setting up fan pages for authors, developing projects concerning authors, and/or discussing how one particular genre (with a multitude of authors) beats out all others. The kids will be discussing all the literacy elements you want them to know as long as you give them the forum and the guidelines to help them succeed.
4) Clipart, pictures, and other random pieces of art found and brought in- learn the importance of downloading everything and putting it in piece by piece. Look at your wikispace from several different screen sizes- it will help you in the long run, trust me.
5) When you have every finish to your satisfaction- PLEASE remember to "LOCK" the pages so that your children cannot alter or destroy all your hard work.
